About Us
The Health System Performance Network (HSPN) team includes investigators, visiting scholars, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students and research staff. Academic disciplines represented include economics, epidemiology, finance, health informatics, health services research, nursing, organizational management, and statistics.
The HSPN leverages its research and evaluation experience to assess policy directions and organizational strategies to guide efforts to improve health outcomes and patient experiences of care while containing costs.
History
From 1998 to 2008, the Hospital Report Research Collaborative (HRRC) partnered with the Canadian Institute for Health Information to produce over 30 reports on hospital performance with an aim to help Ontario healthcare managers support quality improvement and demonstrate accountability. The reports used a Balanced Scorecard approach to measure and evaluate hospital performance in four complementary areas: 1) clinical utilization and outcomes, 2) financial performance and condition, 3) patient satisfaction, and 4) system integration and change across a broad range of sectors, including:
- acute care
- emergency department care
- complex continuing care
- rehabilitation and
- mental health
The HRRC evolved to become what is known today as the Health System Performance Network(HSPN).
